Welcome Miriam Machado, Director of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum.
We are pleased to announce that Miriam Machado has been named Director of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University. After serving as our interim director since June 2024, Miriam steps into the role officially continuing a journey that spans more than 15 years with our museum.
Miriam has long been a driving force behind much of what we do, helping shape the museum as a dynamic cultural and academic resource. She has expanded access to our collections and programs, advanced interdisciplinary learning and deepened our connection with FIU's teaching and research mission. Over the years, she has also led key initiatives including the national search for our chief curator, the reactivation of the Emerging Artists Program and the development of STEAMworks, connecting the arts with science and technology. During a pivotal period of transition, she helped shape a new strategic plan, strengthen our operations and governance, and grow our fundraising efforts.
"I am deeply honored to serve as director of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum," Machado said. "It is a privilege to build upon the strong foundation established by previous leadership and to carry this work forward with intention and purpose. To lead a university museum is to shape how knowledge is experienced through objects, exhibitions and shared encounters and to ensure that the arts remain central to life on campus."
We're excited to continue this work with Miriam as director and look forward to what's ahead as we deepen our connection with our community and create more meaningful experiences with the arts.
