Visitor Guidelines

The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum FIU operates in accordance with the latest guidelines from FIU and the CDC to ensure the health and safety of the public and staff.

Please note the following: 

  • Stay home if you are feeling sick or have a fever.
  • It is highly recommended all visitors should wear a face mask
  • All visitors will practice social distancing during their visit with anyone not in their household group. Children must stay with adults at all times.
  • No large bags or backpacks are permitted in the galleries. We recommend leaving them in your car as our coat check is closed. Visitors may put backpacks or bags in unmonitored cubbies at their own risk.

The Frost Art Museum strives to maintain a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment for all visitors. We also take our role as guardians of the objects in our care very seriously. Please enjoy all that the museum has to offer and observe the policies listed here to help protect and preserve the art on view in the museum.Please do not touch any objects on display; the salts and oils naturally produced on your hands are damaging to artworks, even sculpture and furniture.

  • Baggage

    All parcels, umbrellas, and bags larger than 11” x 15” must be checked, including backpack-style child carriers. Bags in excess of 11” x 15” containing needed medical equipment or for use in nursing or baby care are allowed in the museum. Laptop computers, cameras, and other valuables items cannot be checked. All bags are subject to inspection by security staff upon entrance and exit of the museum.  

  • Attire

    Shirts and footwear are required for entry.

  • Cell Phone Policies

    Please show consideration for your fellow visitors by exiting the galleries to talk or text on your cellular phones.

  • Mobility Devices

    Manual wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis at the visitor services desk. Please return all wheelchairs after your visit.

  • Gallery Seating

    Free gallery stools are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. These lightweight folding seats are available at the reception desk. Please return them at the end of your visit.

  • Photography

    The Frost Art Museum permits handheld photography for personal, non-distributional, noncommercial use in its exhibitions unless otherwise posted. Please check the wall signage to confirm. Working members of the media, formal portraits, event photography, and any other commissioned photography require prior written permission from the Frost Art Museum. For the safety of our visitors and collections, the use of tripods, monopods, may only be used in the galleries with prior permission from the museum. Permission requests may be sent to artinfo@fiu.edu. Please allow 2 weeks for the review and consideration of all permission requests. Same-day requests will not be considered or approved. All photographers must be escorted by a museum staff member while in the building.

     

     

    Notice: Visitors may be filmed, photographed, or recorded by the Frost Art Museum for educational and promotional uses, including for posting on the museum’s website and other public websites.

     

  • Sketching

    Sketching is permitted in the museum galleries unless otherwise posted. Please check the wall signage to confirm. Please be extremely careful with your drawing tools; show respect for the artwork and your fellow visitors. Drawing boards and sketch pads may be no larger than 18 x 24 inches and we allow “dry” media only: pencils, wax crayon, conte crayon, and erasers. Pens, loose ink, fountain pens, oil crayon, paint (including watercolors), easels or stands, and charcoal or pastel in stick form are not allowed.

     

Code of Conduct

Considerate behavior is expected of all visitors; any individual or group whose behavior is disruptive may be asked to leave.

  • What is not allowed in the galleries?

    For the protection of the objects and the comfort and safety of all visitors, please refrain from the following in the museum galleries.

    • Carrying backpacks, large bags, or portfolios
    • Carrying children on shoulders or on back
    • Eating, drinking, and chewing gum
    • Carrying umbrellas
    • Smoking, including electronic cigarettes and vaping devices
    • Running, yelling, horseplay or disruptive behavior
    • Playing music or recordings out loud on hand-held devices
    • Cell-phone conversations
    • Demonstrating or solicitation
    • Flash photography
    • Videotaping
    • Using selfie sticks, tripods, monopods and photography lighting equipment
    • Using flashlights or laser pointers
    • Using pens, markers, charcoals and pastels or solvents

  • I am not feeling well. Can I still visit the museum?

    No. For the safety of visitors and staff, stay home if you are feeling sick or have a fever.
