Ofelia Rodríguez: Psychic Jungle
Ofelia Rodríguez: Psychic Jungle is the first major solo exhibition of the late Colombian artist in the United States, bringing together works spanning five decades of her career. Organized by the Frost Art Museum, the exhibition traces Rodríguez’s (1946–2023) distinctive visual language across painting, drawing, printmaking, assemblage, and her signature “magic boxes.” Shaped by her life in Barranquilla, Paris, New York, and East London, her work blends humor and critique, memory and materiality, drawing from popular culture, devotional imagery, and personal myth. Recurring symbols, such as bandaged mountains, hybrid bodies, sacred hearts, toys, and anatomical fragments, form a symbolic vocabulary that resists exoticism and reimagines narrative traditions.
