The Academy
FIU Academy of Portrait & Figurative Art Exhibition
The Academy presents work by students and alumni alongside their professor, David Y. Chang, from FIU’s Academy of Portrait & Figurative Art, spanning the program’s first eight years. Established by Chang as an atelier-based program within a public university, it is the first of its kind—and remains the only one housed within a public institution in the United States. The Academy emphasizes sustained studio practice, close and acute observation, and classical approaches to figurative drawing and painting, including portraiture, figurative composition, landscape, and still life.
