Please join the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University and several experts to document, celebrate, and honor the incredible legacy of the Miami Black Arts Workshop (MBAW), a Black artistic collective active in West Coconut Grove, from 1969-1985. In conjunction with the museum’s exhibition, Place and Purpose: Art Transformation in Coconut Grove, this conversation brings four active MBAW artists, Kabuya Pamela Bowens-Saffo, Dinizulu Gene Tinnie, and Robert McKnight, to share their stories of artmaking, research, resilience, and community engagement. FIU professor M. Alexandra Cornelius, Ph.D., will moderate the conversation.
Funding for this program was provided through a grant from the Florida Humanities with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
