The Frost Art Museum presents Tertulia Nights, an after-hours experience that takes place every second Thursday of the month. Tertulia Nights promotes an exchange of ideas and dynamic modes of creation and amplifies new voices, inviting local artists, scholars, and changemakers interested in engaging with the community in innovative ways. Angelica Arbelaez, Rubio Butterfield Family Fellow at the Whitney Museum of American Art and artist Nathalie Alfonso will kick-off the event series.  

Angelica Arbelaez 
Angelica Arbelaez is an independent curator and researcher from Miami, Florida. Currently, she is the inaugural Rubio Butterfield Family Fellow at the Whitney Museum of American Art. She was previously the Programs Manager at Oolite Arts from 2017-2020, and the Communications and Events Manager at Locust Projects from 2014-2017. She holds an MA from the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, and a BA in Art History from Florida International University. 

Artist Nathalie Alfonso 
Unseen work and the exercise of emotional control are central to Alfonso's practice. The qualities of invisibility and visibility become the foundations from which she develops drawings, installations, performances, and videos. Nathalie Alfonso (b. 1987, Bogota, Colombia) currently lives and works in South Florida. Alfonso holds a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX, and a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Florida International University, Miami, FL. Alfonso has exhibited and performed her work in galleries, universities, and public spaces, such as NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, Dimensions Variable, Spinello Projects, Art and Culture Center Hollywood, The Projects – Fat Village, Sweet Pass Sculpture Park, Marymount University, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. In 2020 Alfonso was the recipient of the South Florida Cultural Consortium, was selected for The Anderson Ranch Residency program, and was invited to the Home + Away, Oolite Arts, Atlantic Center for the Arts Residency.
