Can women achieve fitness and athletic prowess while conforming to the social norms of femininity?

This exhibition explores the images of physically active women produced by governments, fitness advocates, advertisers, and artists in Europe and the United States during the first half of the twentieth century.

Drawn from the collection of The Wolfsonian-FIU, it includes a variety of media, from posters and magazines to decorative and fine art.

Join us for the exhibition opening in the Wolfsonian Teaching Gallery at The Frost Art Museum. The exhibition is co-curated by Laurie Shrage, professor of Philosophy and director of Women's Studies, and Dionne Stephens, assistant professor of Psychology, and African and African Diaspora Studies.

It is made possible with financial support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
