Please join us for a celebration of our exhibitions: Robert Andy Coombs: Notions of Care and Tesoro: Pepe Mar’s Love Letter to the Frost. Enjoy a conversation at 5:00 p.m. with artists Robert Andy Coombs and Pepe Mar moderated by Phillip M. Carter, Ph.D. Director, Center for Humanities in an Urban Environment at FIU. Followed by music, refreshments + cocktails, and exclusive tours of our exhibitions.

Robert Andy Coombs: Notions of Care documents the photographer’s rich experiences at the intersection of sexuality and disability, which are rarely expressed publicly in contemporary visual culture. Coombs describes his approach as unapologetic; he presents his own body boldly and confidently. In this suite of photographs, Coombs produces a context in which personal and revealing moments are carefully and sensitively laid bare. Challenging preconceptions of disability while revealing an autobiographical narrative filled with both joy and the banal, Coombs brings visitors along to relate and revel in his journey.

In Tesoro, Pepe Mar—an artist who marries a broad range of visual references and personal obsessions spanning art, fashion, queer history, and Mexican culture—created an installation drawn from the Frost Art Museum’s collection.

Space is limited to attend the conversation in person. However, the conversation will be live streamed on Zoom and Facebook Live. We highly recommend wearing masks and staying 6ft apart while inside the museum. Masks will be available upon request.
